Strength in Vulnerability

Does even the thought of “vulnerability” make you cringe? You’re not alone… Many of us have understandably mistaken the idea of vulnerability for weakness. However, it’s anything but a representation of fragility. Vulnerability is an indication of strong and authentic leadership when embraced with intention!

In prevention, there is an even deeper strength rooted in meaningful vulnerability. How? Let’s talk about it…

Connection

A common misconception about vulnerability is it’s exclusively self-centered and hinders productivity. The truth is, in the right circle, vulnerability is actually how innovation and creativity are produced and stronger bonds are formed to reach common goals. Even when faced with constructive criticism after sharing our thoughts and ideas, we remain rooted in the confidence those around us have pure intentions. Vulnerability shows the person you're with that you trust them.

Empathy

Empathy is an essential piece of vulnerability in order to maintain sustainability. Otherwise, peers feel unsafe and are prone to shut down while keeping thoughts and ideas “under wraps”. The more vulnerability is accepted, the more participation in empathetic practices becomes accepted by the majority which normalizes an authentic environment. Not only will it improve your team structure, but also the lives you get to touch every day.

Growth

Vulnerability requires reflection and the ability to learn versus only focusing on outcomes. When growth becomes the objective, you can never lose… You can only expand. Especially when it comes to leadership, being in a higher role sets the tone for everyone else, and being willing to openly learn from taking risks encourages others to do the same.

See? None of this means spilling your life story or finding ways to make excuses for poor work performance. It simply means finding deeper ways to bond in your relationships - both professionally and personally.

Questions? Let’s connect!

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
